Have you ever assigned students a video to watch? How do you know for sure they watched it and didn’t just press play and walk away? Maybe you have a trackable quiz after the video, which is a good idea. But here’s an even better idea: Put the quiz questions inside the video, and prompt students to answer each question before the video continues. You could even send them back to rewatch the relevant part if they miss the question. Once they finish, their completion scores are automatically reported.
Brilliant, right? Welcome to Interactive Video with H5P.
The purple dots in the timeline indicate where the video stops and a question is posed. In this video, students cannot skip ahead but must watch until they reach each question point in the video. They need to pay attention, otherwise if they miss a question, they’ll be sent back to watch the relevant part again. They’re also able to rewind 10 seconds with the rewind clock button.
The first actual question is at 01:30, however a sample question has been added at 00:36 so you can see the effect more quickly.
There are many options with H5P Interactive video, and you can make it as difficult or easy as you like, for example, not making them go back and rewatch part of the video if they miss a question. It’s up to you.

What is H5P?
H5P is a free resource that lets you create simple interactive content like interactive videos, quizzes, games, presentations, and more. Once you create an H5P interaction you can download it and upload it to Moodle, Drupal, or WordPress. The best part is, you can edit it and share it with others, who can also edit it. H5P is a truly ideal way to create portable, editable learning objects. You can also track your students’ progress and scores.
